§ 40-1. Definitions.

For the purpose of this chapter, the words and phrases used in the Louisiana Highway Regulatory Act shall have the meaning ascribed to them in R.S. 32:1, with the exception that:
(1)

Where the term "department" or "department of transportation and development" is used, they shall include the parish council unless the meaning clearly indicates otherwise;

(2)

Where the term "department of public safety and corrections" is used, they shall include the parish council, the sheriff, and the sheriff's department of the parish, unless the meaning clearly indicates otherwise.
